MOSGIEL HIGH SCHOOL
Mr E. W, Cate presided at the monthly meeting ot the Mosgiel District High School. The Mosgiel P.W.M.U. applied for the use of the school gardens for the annua! garden fete.—Granted, Correspondence was read regarding the concreting of the school yard, the cost being approximately £4oo.—lt was decided to seek a grant for the work through the member for the electorate. The Mosgiel Ministers’ Association forwarded a donation of 200 New Testaments for use in the primary department in the regular Bible instruction given at the school by members of the Ministers’ Association,— It was decided to send a letter of thanks; also to procure a supply of leaflets for use in the religious exercises, the cost to be borne equally by members of committee and the school funds. The Taieri Badminton Club thanked the committee for an allowance in the rental of the gymnasium, and the Taieri Swimming Club acknowledged a donation from the committee towards “ learn to swim ” expenses. A letter from the senior dental officer, Otago district, staled that Nurse Reynolds would be transferred to Brighton. It was suggested that British children evacuees now arriving in the Dominon should receive free treatment within the scope of school dental clinics;—This suggestion was approved. A memorandum was forwarded by the senior dental officer to the effect that in cases where children had had no earlier opportunity of attending a dental clinic, and subsequently transfer to a school where a dental clinic was established, a modification of the existing policy would apply in future. All such cases wopld be considered on their merits with a view to inclusion wherever possible. In arriving at a decision dental clinic committees would be consulted. —Noted. The Department of Health forwarded a summary of the annual report of the division of dental hygiene. The staff (including 156 student dental nurses) numbered 432; school clinics, 322; schools served, 1,749; children under systematic treatment, 101,701; number of operations for the year, 912,370; total operations wnee the inception of the service, 8,463,189.
