COURSING
NOTES AND COMMENTS [By ri,uxu*TON.] Correspondent.—Thu pedigree asked for will bo given next week. Hawke’s Bay Running. Mi 4 A. Perry’s While Tracer, winner of the Open Slake, decided at. the final meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Club’s season, is a voungsler of great promise, showing speed, cleverness, and determination. In every course during the running of this stake he was much superior, to those he met. Being bv Great Worry (Why Worry—. Sultana) from the stud matron While Gold (feolitaire —While Butterlly), lie is bred m the purple, and from his breeding will improve with age. . , , _ - , Mrs T. E. M'Donald’s Loch Lomond, who filled the position of runner-up, went his usual consistent way without showing real brilliance. Ids best performance on the day bcin" in the second round, when he defeated Red Chief by one point in a very short course. , , r China Clipper, raced (N.S.) by Mr J Front, i= a fast bitch, capable of much belter things than third place in only moderate company. By Black Andy (Simple Simon— Lady Andy) from Black Bebe (Papbian —Fanny’s \erse), this bitch has in her veins some of the best greyhound blood known. 1 The Clipper (Cin Paph—Ruebmg Footsteps) owned by Messrs James and Taylor, ran bis worst course to date. This great champion of the 1938 season has earned a I’G'xt. Mr P. IT. Donoghue’s Red Chief failed badly in the second round after going a magnificent course in the opening round. He°was not in the excellent condition lie was for (he Waterloo Cup fixture, whore ho reached Ibe fourth round before being defeated by the ultimate winner, Hetty Micawber. Roval Artillery (Boston Boy—l W-a Dotilii), owned by Miss Peggy Swanson, has shown much better form, us bus also Mr O. Wall's Royal Desire (Royal Sovereign—
Desire). Mrs I. Patrick's Battleship (Chancellor —Irish Molly) was another that has raced much better. Kaitere. (fiery footsteps—Wild Chase) raced (N.S.) by Mr L. Gray, and Mrs G. Hull's Mangatora (Chancellor —Dolaiuc) showed no form whatever. Air H. Al’Douald’s (N.S.) Amber Valani (Tarago—Desire) appears on the official programme as an imported bitch. Amber Valani should not so appear. A greyhound bred in Australia and raced in New Zealand should appear on the programme as being Australian-bred. If by an Australian sire from a New Zealand dam it should appear with the designation (Aus.) after the name of the su-e, and if both sire and dam are Anstralian-brcd the designation should appear after names of sire and dam. Amber Valani, winner of the Maiden Trophy Stake, is a young -bitch with great prospects. Sbo showed speed and cleverness, and when in on the game worked most determinedly, winning all her courses most decisively, with the exception of the final, when, in a very short course, she just beat Sparkling footsteps by half a point. Mrs ,T. Trout's Sparkling h’ootstcps (fiery footsteps—Sparkling Thorn), rnn-ner-up to Amber Valani, showed great promise, winning cadi course, with the exception of the final, very easily. This youngster is on the way to better class company. Mr S. Dockary's (N.S.) Loppaiong (Electric Hope—Rahpipay) is a very fast dog, but unfortunately is a hard one to keep in top form. If this dog ever strikes form at a meeting lie will bo a sure winner. He showed much improvement at this meeting. Mrs V. Baking's Old Pal (Chancellor — Dolaine) went his first two courses in bill-, liaub style. In the first be had a very hard and strenuous run, and as the second course drew to a close it was noticeable that be was tiring. In the semi-final ho was very sore. Old Pal is a dog (hat will do big things, both at enclosure coursing and speed racing. In the Maiden Trophy Stake four offspring of Royal Sovereign raced, all showing fair promise. The two that appeal most aro Hats Off and Star Ranger, both being from Annie Laurie (Master Hamilton— Ryan’s Lass). The other two are Air J. E. Sullivan’s Sovereign Lady and Air D. L. Price’s Mickey free. These two arc from Lass o’ Gowrie.
