COMMUNITY SING FOR AIR RAID RELIEF
The Whang community sing, which terminates its most successful season on Saturday night at His Majesty’s Theatre, is arranging a special programme which should give very bright and unusual entertainment for those fortunate enough to obtain a scat. As all the money raised is going for the London air raid relief fund, the appeal should be a popular one, and the committee is looking forward to a record night. The sing will be under the jurisdiction of Mr “Whang” M’Kenzie, the song leader (Mr Ernie Fish), and Mrs Cameron as pianist. The finals of the children’s talent tests, which were held some time ago, will commence at 7 p.m., and the main part of the sing will commence at 8 p.m. The most important attraction will be the appearance of the well-known “ Gran.,” of Christchurch. This lady is a tireless worker for any charitable or patriotic works, and the amount of work that has been done by her more than merits the acknowledgment which will be, paid to her on Saturday evening. The programme will be broadcast by 4YA, and whangs will be accepted for broadcasting. The box plan is now in the hands of the secretary, and reservations may be obtained from his business premises, W. T. Beveridge Ltd., Cargills’ Corner, or a phone ring (23-821) until Saturday at noon and at the theatre from 2 p.m.
