GREEN ISLAND COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Green Island County Council was held last night, the mayor (Mr G. A. Orange) being in tho chair. It was decided to accede to the suggestions of tho superintendent of the City Fire Brigade (Mr 11. H. Price) regarding improvements to the district’s water supply for fire-fighting purposes. The improvements consisted of one or two weirs in tho Kaikorai Stream and alterations to the Runciman street bridge, so that tho water of ■ the stream might be used by a brigade. The weirs would bank up water of suitable depth •nd quantity It was decided to proceed with the erection of a band platform in Miller Park subsequent to the decision of a sub-committee to be set up to go. into tho matter of the most suitable site. An application from the Green Island Cricket Club for the use of two wickets on Miller Park in the forthcoming season was granted at a rental of £2 2s for each wicket. Accounts passed for payment were: District fund, £1,406 3s 8d; drainage loan, £4 19s 2d; cinema, £94 Is lOd. A letter was received from the Minister of Housing advising that further sections would be purchased in Green Island for State housing purposes.
