WEST HARBOUR AFFAIRS
MEETING OF BOROUGH GOUKGII. When the question of making a general charge for refuse removal withn the borough came up for discussion at the West Harbour Borough Council meeting last, night, it was decided to hold the matter over until the next meeting for a definite decision. The mayor (Mr A. Smith) presided. Work on the new Roseneath-Sawyers Bay road would be expedited as much as possible, while the hole at the Sawyers Bay station would be attended to at an early date, advised the railways district engineer (Mr’ O. J. Doidge) in reply to a letter from tho council.—lt was decided to write pointing out that nothing had yet been done to the dangerous hole at the station. Nuisances created by the discharge of sentic tanks into street channels were the subject of a complaint by Mr G. Crosbie (Ravensbourne), who also specified two sower outlets, which, in his opinion, contributed to the general danger to health. He suggested that these should be given a direct outlet to the harbour.—lt was decided to distribute pamphlets giving instructions as to the correct usage of septic tanks, since it was apparent that a number were not working efficiently. Mr ■). W. Fi-idlatcr was appointed ranger for tlie borough.
