ENTERTAINING PRODUCTIONS There was a fair attendance in the Concert Chamber on Monday evening, when the -Repertory Society held its usual monthly social evening. The programme was a varied one, consisting of three short plays. The first was _ a presentation of the well-known trial scene from the ‘ Merchant of Venice,’ which was well received. All the parts were adequately filled, especially that of Shylock, taken by Mr C. Russell Smith, The costuming, too, was very effective. Others taking part were Misses Nana Newey, Peggy Griffiths, Messrs Frank Lanyon. Roland Watson, Bernard Sullivan, Harold Robinson, and Leslie Jack. The next play was a humorous fragment entitled ‘ After the Tempest.’ The setting was specially worthy of mention, portraying a scene on a desert island very simply but effectively. This was tho work of Air Alaurice Bellugue, who also produced the play. Those taking part were Alisses Jocelyn Tapley, Doris Jones, Doris Neos, and Messrs Douglas Lee and M. Bellugue. The last play was the work of a local playwright. Airs R. Gilkison. It was entitled ‘ Tho Question,’ and was very adequately staged and produced by Mrs Ailsa Stephens. The cast was as follows;—Alosdames Elsie Stephens (who gave a most realistic portrayal of a ter-. rifled and grief-stricken woman). H. L. Anderson, L. Withers, Messrs F. Lauyon, J. Hayward, and L. Jack. During an interval, Sirs Wakefield Holmes announced that, as a result of the production of ‘ When We Are Married.’ the patriotic funds would benefit by tho sum of nearly £3OO.
