LASHED BY RAIN
44 MILES AN HOUR SALE [Per United Press Association’.J AUCKLAND, October 1. Driven by a north-easterly gale that reached its highest velocity of 44 miles an hour at 2 o’clock this morning rain lashed Auckland City and suburbs through the greater part of the night and a fall of 1.26 in was recorded at 9 o’clock. It marked the heaviest rainfall since May 3, when 1.68 in fell for 24 hours. The weather cleared during the forenoon.
