ST. ANDREW SOCIETY
The monthly social of the above society was held on Saturday night, when there was a good attendance of members and friends. Tho president (Mr D. Minnock), accompanied by the patron (Mr J. T. Brown) and Mr Gillespie, was piped to the platform by the official piper (Mr J. M'Vean). Mr Minnock welcomed Mr and Mrs Gillespie (of Edinburgh), who recently arrived from Hongkong, where they had spent 20 years, also Mrs Drummond, of Tarras. The president mentioned with regret the death of Mr Donald M’lnnes, father of one of the members, and all present stood in silence while Piper iJ. M'Vean played a lament. A one-act Scottish play entitled ‘ The Glendarroch Affair ’ was presented by the society’s _ Scottish players, under the supervision of Mr A. L. Webster. Those taking part were Glendarroch (a farmer), Mr H. T. Bell; Annie (a farm servant-maid), Miss Guthrie; Geordie (a ploughman), Mr A. Robb; constable, Mr T. M'lnnes. During the evening Mr Bruce Doherty gave three songs. The dancing of old-time Scottish folk dances brought the evening to a close.
