Hon. A. Campbell, Hon. T. O’Byrne (Invercargill), and Hon. T. F. Doyle (Bluff) were passengers by the through express to-day, being bound for Wellington. Mr S. Ritchie (Conciliation Commissioner) came from Invercargill today on his way back to Christchurch. Lieutenant J. R. Hanan, Mayor of Invercargill, passed through Dunedin on his way south yesterday on leave from camp. Petty-officer Maddocks, of Dunedin, who has been attached to the Royal Navy at Devonport, England,, has now completed his training, and has been drafted to H.M.S. Devonshire.
The Rev. B. C. Nottage, of the New Hebrides Presbyterian Mission, at present on furlough in New Zealand, has forwarded his resignation to the Missions Committee- for health reasons. Reference to the death of Mr A. E. Jull, M.P., a former chairman of the New Zealand Counties’ Association, was made at the monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti County Council yesterday, and the members of the council stood in silence as a mark of respect. The Rev. W. H. Rainey is expected to arrive in Australia at the end of the year to act as Commonwealth secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society. His appointment is,for the duration of the war. Mr Rainey is secretary for Western Europe, and was previously secretary for Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador. Staying at the City Hotel are Miss G. M. Rutherford, Master P. Rutherford (Auckland), Mr L. Dykes, Mr C. Bailey (Winton). On the guest list at the Excelsior Hotel are Mr W. Scott, Mr P. A. Solomon (Wellington), Mr C. M'Kenzie (Picton), Mr G. Jones (Blenheim), Mr and Mrs J. Rourke, Mr F. Burke (Christchurch), Mr G. Low (Lyttelton), Mr W. Naish (Kakanui). _ New arrivals at Wain’s Hotel include Mr H. R. Fowler, Mr J. Neville-Jack-son, Mr J. W. Winefield (Auckland), Mr A. S. W yness (Wellington), Mr E. H. Harrison (Christhcurch), Mr J. M. Warnock (Taieri). Latest registrations at the Carlton Hotel include Mr F. A. Sullivan, Mr L. M. Rogers (Christchurch), Mr F. J. Robinson (Timaru), Mr C. W. Hamilton (Fairlie), Mr C. C. Lucas (Tuapeka Mouth), Mr and Mrs R. Cresser (Invercargill) .
