UNUSUAL TWIST

Of one of Arthur Cask’s earlier thrillers, H. G. Wells is reported to have said: “By far the best piece of story-telling Cask has done. It kept mo up to Mlf-past 1 last night.” Mr Wells had no need to he ambiguous. Whenever that master-detective, Gilbert Larose, has been the central figure Mr Cask’s stories have always been at least eminently readable. ‘ The House on the Fens ’ is a good gripping story, with all the necessary qualities for a murder mystery. The suspect is no less a person than Gilbert Larose himself, who needs no introduction to the vast army of “ thriller ” readers. The evidence against him piles up in a way that would bo sufficient to hang most men, but fbe use of a little influence with the authorities gives the detective sufficient breathing space to net the real criminals. Messrs Herbert Jenkins Ltd. are the publishers of this entertaining novel.
