FANTASTIC THRILLER
In searching for a formula for a plot why do authors of mystery stories so often verge upon the realms of the fantastic? Perhaps it is because tlfty subscribe to the dictum that nothing is strange in this topsy-turvy world. A recent publication with more than a touch of the fantastic in it is ‘ Her Second Murder,’ by James Corbett, and published by Herbert Jenkins Ltd., London (onr copy from Whitcombe and Tombs Ltd.). However, the very nature of the impossibilities conjured up by the author makes the story readable, if it is only to see bow it all ends. In ‘ Her Second Murder ’ the reader becomes acquainted with four different gangs of crooks, international and otherwise, all seeking to possess themselves _ of a secret formula. A murder outside the very doors of Scotland Y'ard is but an introductory element for a story which may appeal to thriller readers only.
