[From Our Correspondent] > PERSONAL. At the concluding meeting of the Lawrence Presbyterian Badminton Club' opportunity was taken by his fellow club members to say au revoir to Mr John Forbes, who will shortly be leaving the district to engage in military duties. On behalf of those present, Rev. F. W. Winton presented Mr Forbes with a fountain pen as a small reminder of his association with the club. Mr Forbes thanked those present for their good wishes and their gift. GOLF. The second qualifying round for* the ladies’ championship resulted:—Gilmour Cup: Mrs Gilmour, 83—89—172; Mrs George, 90—86—176; Mrs Elder, 92—87—179; Mrs Laloli, 85—97—182. Johnstone Cup: Mrs Frew, 96—102 198; Miss D. Bain, 102—98—200; Mrs Hobau, 100—101—201; Mrs Mercer, 106—98—204. Tough Cup: Mrs Faigan, 99—93—192; Miss N. Bain, 103— 112 —215; Mrs Bishop, 117—116—233; Miss Hay, 119—117—236. The semi-final will be played on Saturday. ROXBURGH BOWLING CLUB. Mr J. H. Uren, secretary of the Roxburgh Bowling Club, has received a letter from the secretary of the Central Otago Bowling Centre. In this letter the Roxburgh Club was given permission to hold its tournament at Easter. The letter states further that Miller’s Flat will not he in the fixtures, and Mr F. A. Laloli was appointed senior vice-president. The Roxburgh green will in all probability be the official green next year. Only six matches will be played, three before Christmas—November 9 and 23 and December 7—and three after. TheCromwell Club is holding a patriotic tournament on Labour Day, and the Roxburgh and Miller’s Flat Clubs are asked to attend. The local green''is looking very well, and if the weather continues favourable, bowling should commence a fortnight earlier .than usual. ROXBURGH QUEEN CARNIVAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Roxburgh Queen Carnival Committee was held on Thursday evening in the library room, Mr F. A. Laloli presiding. It was reported that various business people had donated gifts towards the funds. It was also stated that the question of a stock drive had been left in abeyance in the meantime, as the Dunedin Committee was working on this scheme. Mrs J. R. Gilmour was elected to take full charge of the fair to be held in October. The Drama Circle is going to stage a concert. Some of the school children were_ endeavouring to run a concert in aid of Hie funds, and it was thought that it would be possible to combine their items with a community sing. . -
