TAIERI COMPETITIONS
FINAL SESSION Last night’s programme closed the sessions of the Taieri Competitions Festival, and the final demonstration concert will be held next Thursday evening. Rev. G. Densem presided. The session was an enjoyable one, the classes consisting of stage dancing, recitation, and drama. The results were as follows: Tap Dancing (nine and under 12). Seven entries. —Miss Beverley Wix 1, Misses June Tregilgus and Ngaire Holland (equal) 2, Miss Lorna Prattley 4, Miss Rose Ledgerwood h.c. Also competed: Master Gerald Geddes and Miss Mona M'Gregor. Recitation, Humorous'(l6 and over). —Miss Mollie Crossan, ‘ A Tragedy of the Fifth.’ The only competitor. This item was worthy of a larger class, said the judge. The winner had a flair for humour, hut should try to develop the lower notes of her voice.
Operatic Dance (nine and under 12), Seven entries.—Miss ‘ Beverley Wix 1, Miss Helen Fraser 2, Miss Ngaire Holland 3. Also competed: Miss Beryl Price, Miss Hilary Mason, Miss Mona M'Gregor, Miss Eleanor Gregory. Recitation, Humorous (under 121. Recalls from Saturday evening: Miss Velma Lobh 1, Miss June Tregilgus-2, Miss Audry Geary 3, Miss Esme Garland v.h.e. The judge said the winner had a good sense of humour, and was a very promising performer. The competitor placed second was a very clever child, but her selection was too old for her.
Dance Duo (under 14). Four entries. —Misses Helen Fraser and Ngaire Holland 1, Misses June Stewart and Shirley 'Stewart 2. Also competed: Miss Hilary Mason and Miss June Tregilgus Becitation, not Humorous (18 and over). Three entries. —Mr D. Mitchell 1. Mrs Dorothea Wornall-Smith 2, Miss Mol lie Crossan 3. The winner gave a nice, restrained performance, and is to he congratulated. The competitor placed second has a beautiful voice and good enunciation. For the one-act play there were three entries: Green Island Women’s Institute (two entries) and the Mosgiel players. The results were—Mosgiel iplayers, ‘ Suppressed Desires,’ 1 ; Green Island Women’s Institute. ' Come to the Ball.’ 2; Green Island Women’s Institute. ‘ 0 Let Him Pass,’ 3. The judge said that the evening play was a very good performance—one of the host she had ever seen in Mosgiel.
In the report of Wednesday evening’s session the placing® of awards were not correctly given in the two following classes

Action Song (under 12, recalls from Monday evening).—Miss Joan MJunes 1. Miss Betty .An pi cento 2. Miss Hilary Mason v.h.0., Miss June Tregilgus h.e. The president of the Dunedin Competitions Society (Mr D. Standage), in a brief address, conveyed greetings to the local society. He mentioned that Dunedin had seen 39 years of competitions as against Mosgiel’s eight. He congratulated the Mosgiel committee on the success achieved, and expressed the hope that future competitions would he equally successful. Tim chairman spoke a word of thanks to all who had assisted in any way. malciiv' special mention of the work of the judges.
