SHIP DESERTION
SEAMAN SENT TO GAOL [Pee United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 27. Sentence of six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed by th* magistrate, Mr Stout, on George Norman (37).’a seaman and fireman, fof desertion from an overseas ship. The company representative said the ship was a food ship loading for the United Kingdom, and he suggested that desertions from such ships in certain cases could cause serious embarrassment to the whole community. Norman from *the dock denounced th» conditions existing on the ship.
