[From Our Correspondent] PERSONAL. At a queen carnival function at Aloneymore on Wednesday night, opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Sergeant J. APGuire, of the Air Force, who is on leave. Air 11. G. Cullen, on behalf of the. residents of Aloney-more-Glcnoro-Clarksville, presented the departing soldier with a wristlet’watch, and referred to the fact that he was the first young man from the district to leave with the Air Force. The county queen (Miss Joan Cochrane) fastened the watch on Sergeant APGuire, who was accorded musical honours. OBITUARY, There passed away at Milton on Wednesday an old and highly-respected resident in Airs Patrick Keogh. The deceased, whose maiden name was Jnlianne McCarthy, was born in Athlone, Roscommon, Ireland, 8-1 years ago. She came to New Zealand when 22 years of age it; the ship William Davcy, and went to AVaikouaiti, where she married Air Keogh. Shortly afterwards they went to Narrowdalcs, Milton, to live, and later shifted to Milton, where she has resided ever since. Airs Keogh, was of a cheery and kindly nature. She took a keen interest in the Catholic Church. Her husband predeceased her in 1905, and she is survived by two sons, Alessrs Denis Patrick Keogh (Balclutlia) and James William Keogh (Alilton). ST, JOHN AMBULANCE. Members of the AJilton Hdne Nursing Division recently had their examination, when the following passed:—Alesdames E. G. Dignan, E. S. Paul, J. AI. Rush, I. AI. Amyes, Alisses R. Bateman, L Burn, I. Crawford, J. Campbell, T. M. K. Colqnhonn, P. Floyd, AI S. Gray, J. D. Littlejohn, L. E. Martin I. B. Melville, R. J. APKinna, M K. Malev, T. Park, N. C. Vidal, E. M. Wyllie, G. AI. Taylor, and Henry O. Fagg. There are now 27 members of the division, who can, if they so desire, complete their V.A.D. course by taking the CO hours’ course in a hosPltal 'MILTON CRICKET CLUB. Mr E. Olver. presided at the annual meeting of the above club. The report and balance sheet showed an improved financial position and were adopted. Ihe following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mr E. Olver; secretary, Mr W Heads; club captain, Mr H. Heads; deputy, Mr L. Wybrow; auditor, Mr G. H. Thomson; delegates to 5.0.C.A., Alessrs J. Kane, J. Heads, S. Ottrey; committee—Alessrs J. Kano, J. Vidal, L Wybrow, W. Arbnckle, J. Kerr; coach,’Mr J. Vidal; selector, team captain. It was decided to issue four complimentary tickets to the Toko. District High School. Opening day was fixed for October 5. The secretary was instructed to write to the Taieri Club regarding the Labour Day match Mi A ° APLaren, one of the vice-presidents, donated a trophy for the season. Reference was made to the fact that several members had either left for active service or were shortly doing so, and it was decided to place on record a minute appreciative _of their services to the club and their action in joining the forces. TOKO. TENNIS CLUB.
At the thirty-third annual meeting of the above club on Wednesday night Mr D J. Sumpter presided. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. Office-bearers elected were - Patron's, Messrs E.'Moore and G. H. Thomson; president, Air I. W. Lee; vice-presidents, Messrs T. B. Lockhart and T. Bedford; secretary, Miss V. Rutherford; committee—Mrs J. Murrav. Misses R. Wilson, and M. v*iay, Messrs D J. Sumpter and I. Thomson; auditor, Mr L. M. Scott. The election of a Social Committee and delegates to S.O.L.T.A. was left to the committee. Opening day was fixed for October 5. Five new members were elected. SOUTH OTAGO CRICKET ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the above was held last night. Mr L. North presided over an attendance ol nine delegates representing four clubs. The annual report and balance sheet were presented bv the secretary, congratulations being extended to Clutha A on winning the Stewart Shield and Owaka on winning the knock-out cup. The finances showed a slight improvement on the previous year. The reports were adopted, and satisfaction expressed at the position disclosed, _ The election of office-bearers resulted :—President, Mr L. North (Owaka) ; vice-presidents, Messrs A. iv.. Baxter (Balclutha) and G. APLcan (Kaitangata) ; secretary, Air A. Stewart (Balclutha) ; auditor, Mr J. T. Walter ; Grade Committee, Messrs Baxter and Stewart; selector, Mr W. Parker (Kaitangata). . Thanks were tendered the retiring president for his services to cricket over a long period of years. It was decided to again participate in “ Country Week ” if this was arranged bv the Otago Association. Appreciation of the arrangements and hospitality extended to country players was expressed, but a recommendation was made that in the event of a representative fixture being played l during this week it be arranged at the end of the other fixtures in order that players not selected would be able to return home instead of having to wait, as was the rase last year, for intcrassociation games. ’ Four teams —Clutha, Kaitangata, Aidton. and Owaka —nominated for the competitions this season, and it was decided that three rounds be played for the shield and also for the cup.
Opening day was fixed for Saturday, October 19.
Regarding representative teams, it was decided that clubs send the names of players available to the secretary of trie association by the Saturday prior to the fixture in order to give the selector time to select a team. Clubs not forwarding names are to be eliminated from representative teams. Several member paid tributes to the retiring secretary (Air L. Guest), who leaves for camp next week, and it was decided that a suitable gift be made to him in apppreciation of his services. Before the meeting closed the President asked Mr Guest, captain of Clutha A team, to accept the Stewart Shield won by it last season. He said the competition had boon very close, and it was not till the final match that the winner was decided.
