Y.W.C.A.

ANNUAL MEETING “ After a year of war, bringing fresh anxieties every day, we have learnt to bo calm. We can help others to face these times with calmness and confidence. We know our cause cannot fail, for right is always triumphant in the end,” said Mrs J. R. Fairbairu, who presided at the sixty-second annual meeting of tho Y.W,C.A. last night. The need for new buildings was shown clearly in the annual report, said Mrs Fairbairu, moving its adoption. Tho fact that a large number of intending guests had had to be refused by the hostel was alone sufficient recommendation for the proposal. “ This dream building of ours can be a real centre for the women’s organisations of Otago. We look for its realisation in tho not too distant future,” she continued. Membership of the Y.W.C.A. was not merely a matter of paying a subscription; it offered the privileges and entailed the responsibilities of a share in a world-wide organisation. Appeals from war-stricken members in Europe had, for instance, been responded to by the Duneclin branch. The motion was seconded by Mr J. Sutherland Ross and carired. Airs R. W. S. Botting explained the financial position of the organisation 1 Tho retiring directors of the board— Airs R. W. S. Botting, Mrs P. L. Ritchie, and Aliss G. Farnie—were reelected.
