£IOO FOR GIFT PARCELS
SOUTH DUNEDIN COMMUNITY SING SPLENDID RESPONSE TO-DAY Nearly £93 was collected to-day at the South Dunedin community sing in the Mayfair Theatre, when an appeal was made on behalf of the funds for soldiers’ gift parcels. This is one of the best responses recorded at this sing, and is particularly gratifying in that it was the final sing of the season to be held in the Mayfair. The figure will be brought up to £IOO by the South Dunedin Businessmen’s Association, promoters of the sing, and that sum will be given to the Patriotic Council for the purpose indicated. As usual the sing was led by Mr It. M'Kenzie, Mr E. Fish being song leader, and Mrs E. D. Cameron officiating at the piano. Soio artists were Messrs Fred Wilson and E. Ottrey. The sing was exceptionally well attended, and the choruses were sung with considerable enthusiasm. At the conclusion of the function Mr M'Kenzie thanked those who had supported the sing during the season, and thanked also Mr John Hamer (manager) and the staff of the Mayfair Theatre. Although this was the last sing in the theatre, the season will not be officially closed until Saturday. October 5, when a grand finale will be held in His Majesty’s Theatre. Arrangements are in hand to, try to hold this sing in the interests of sufferers from air raids in Great Britain, but it cannot be stated definitely yet that this will be the case. Should permission be granted to raise money for this purpose, several handsome donations have been promised already
