Captain T. E, Tether, marine superintendent of the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company, left to-day on hii return to Wellington. Mr C. H. Crombie, manager of the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company, was a passenger by the through express to-day on his way back to Christchurch. Mr A. E. Ansell left to-day for Christchurch to attend the annual meeting ,of the South Island Motor Union. Messrs H. L. Gibson- and W. H. MacKenzie left to-day <or Christchurch to attend a meeting of the Group Travel Association to-morrow. On Friday Mr Gibson will attend the of the South Islands Travel Association, of which he is president. Captain A. H. Andrews', New Zealand Army Ordnance Corps, and an exAII Black footballer, has been promoted to the rank of major, the promotion to date as from August I.' The chairman of ■ the War Pensions Appeal Board (Sir Francis Frazer) will arrive at the week-end to preside over a sitting of the board, which will commence on Monday. Mr D. Forsyth, of Port Chalmers, president of the New Zealand Educational Institute, has returned after paying a visit to the West Coast on institute business. Able Seaman T, R. Roydhouse, of the R.N.V.R., left by the north-bound express yesterday for active service. A motion of sympathy with Mr Alex. Duncan in his illness, was carried at the monthly' meeting of the Dunedin R. last night. At a meeting of the executive of the Real Estate Institute (Otago Branch) over which Mr R. S M'Kenzie presided, reference was made to the resignation of Mr Douglas M. Spedding from the executive after 21 years’ active participation ‘in the affairs of the local institute. '■ He was president of the branch in 1935-36, and during 193032, as president of the New Zealand Institute, he did conspicuous work in assisting members affected by the earthquake in Hawke’s Bay. A minute of ‘appreciation of his services to both bodies was recorded and l a copy forwarded to Mr Spedding. High tributes to the services given to cricket in Otago, and in particular to the Carisbrook Cricket Club, by the late Mr J. M. Fraser, were paid at the annual meeting of the club last evening. Mr Fraser was an extremely active club worker, earlier as a player and later as an administrator, and at the time of his death he was a delegate to the Otago* Cricket Association. Reference was made also to the death on active service of two club members, Messrs R. Kean and E. Howarth. Mr A. J. Hyder (Wellington), Mr J. Langford (Westland), Mr R. W. Sharp Christchurch), and Miss N. Finch (Oamaru) are on the register at the Grand Hotel. Staying at the City Hotel are Mr O. Lyall (Auckland). Mr P. Davin (Ohakea). Misses E. Jeffery, P, M'Kenzie, S.
