CRICKET

GARISBROOK CLUB SUPPORT FOR ENDOWMENT FUND The annual meeting last evening of the Carisbrook Club, which was attended by about 30 members, expressed a very definite opinion that the Endowment Fund inaugurated two seasons ago by the Otago Cricket Association should not be allowed to lapse during the war period. A recommendation urging that opinion on the annual meeting of the association was carried unanimously. The meeting also considered that it would be a mistake to adopt one-day cricket for the coming season, or to restrict the hours of play in any way.

The club lidded five teams last season, the chairman (Mr Crosby Morris) said in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, and the season was a thoroughly pleasant one. The First Grade A team had fought out the final of the championship with Grange, but Mr Morris regretted that the 13 team, potentially so strong, had not performed up to expectations. It was certain that all teams would be weakened in the coming season, but it was most important that sport should be kept going as vigorously as possible during the war period. The motion was seconded by Mr J. Hope and carried. Office-bearers were elected as follows: —President, Mr G. G. Austin; vicepresidents—Messrs A. H. Allen, G. R. Ritchie, A. H. Fisher, J. Hope, and Crosby Morris; dnb captain, Mr J. M. M'Mulhm; deputy club captain, Mr A. C. Proctor; honorary secretary, Mr R. M'Kay; honorary treasurer, Mr A. C. Proctor; committee—Messrs C. 11. G Austin, A. Raynor, and C. R. Gaylor; delegate to Otago Hoys’ Cricket Association, Mr E. WProctor. The meeting expressed its warm -appreciation of the services given to it over many years by the retiring president, Mr Morris. UMPIRES' ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Otago Cricket Umpires’ Association was held last night. The president (Mr G. M’Quecu), who was in the chair, made reference to the death of Mr W. J. Hughes, a member of the association for many years, and those present stood in silence. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, Mr M'Quoen thanked members for their attention to the game throughout the year, an;l saidl that the action of several members

in taking mid-week matches was much appreciated. The fielding trophy had been awarded by the members of the association to the Albion Club. He stressed the necessity of securing more members for the association, as it was most vital that junior members should have efficient umpires. The report was adopted. The election of office-bearers resulted; —Patron, president of the Otago Cricket Association; president, Mr G. M'Queen; vice-presidents—Messrs J. Porteous and A. MTvay; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr W. A. Rowland; committee—Messrs L. Diehl, J. S. Douglas, R. Oxley; selector,'Mr W. A. Rowland; delegate to 0.C.A., Mr W. A.
