GIRLS’ LIFE BRIGADE
[By Captain] Motto: To Save Life. The Colour. This Colour to us is a symbol Of the things which are right and true; Of the Law which our Company teaches, Of the Ideal towards which it reaches, And ,the Aim we have in view.
This Crest has the same lofty meanings Wherever the Company meets, For the host of girls in Brigade who come From the village, overseas, or island home, From the maze of the city streets. We will keep it free from dishonour, From careless neglect or from blame, We will raise it aloft, lifted o’er us, We will march with it ever before Us, In the army of Christ, in His Name. Exhibition of Work, The date of the exhibition of handicrafts, etc., has been altered on account of the primary schools sports. It will now be held on November 2, in the Y.W.C.A. Hall. The competitions will include handwork, needlework, baking, sweets, and various crafts. The exhibition will be open afternoon and evening, and afternoon tea will be served. Gifts for a produce and flower stall will be welcomed. Girls should get busy on their exhibits. Cadet Competitions. Cadet leaders have received a copy of the syllabus for the Cadet competi- I tions, to be held in November. These include verse speaking, hymn singing, and physical exercises. The exercises have been set out, and Cadet leaders j are asked to start at once to prepare 1 these. / N.C.O, Examination. The second examination for n.c.o.s will be held in November, and officers will be advised*' later as to the date, which has had to be altered to enable the competitions and exhibition to be held on the day originally set for the examination. It has been decided that the rules governing the examination will be those set out in the n.c.o. handbook, not the old manual. s This means that a certificate for either drill or a health subject, and two other additional subjects, will be the qualifications for lance-corporal, and a badge for drill or a health subject, and one other badge, will be the qualifications for corporal. Company Notes. 2nd Dunedin Company (Concord).— At the last meeting of the Governing Committee seven ladies volunteered to take the senior girls for their household management badge work on Saturday, September 21. The weather conditions being unsuitable on the day appointed for the completion of the cycling test, this had to be postponed, but wo hope to try again soon. 7th Dunedin Company (North-east Valley Presbyterian).—A very successful evening was held, when a number of parents, members of the Governing Committee, and others interested, were present. Inspection was taken by the battalion inspecting officer, and a programme of drill, games, first aid, and knot-tying was given, after which Adjutant Scott presented to the successful candidates three lance-corporal stripes, three good service first year stars, one faithful service star and certificate, and three Bible knowledge reexamination bars. Some of these awards had been won previously, but they had not come to hand before. After supper, served by the ladies of the committee, vespers were conducted by Sister Marion Campbell.
