1941 ELECTIONS
NO SEASON FOR POSTPONEMENT OPINION OF NON. ADAM HAMILTON In view of the fact that there is no desire for events to take other than their normal course at the present time, the Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. Adam Hamilton), who arrived.in Dunedin last night prior to going on to Wellington to-day, stated that there was no reason to assume that an election would not be held next year. “ There is no basis for supposing an election will not be held,” Mr Hamilton said when the question was asked him this morning. “ There is every desire for events to take their normal course, and . there is no reason why they should hot. Elections have already been held in Canada and in Australia, and they are at war just as we are. nothing has occurred in New Zealand to give rise to any supposition that the elections will not be held.” So far as concerned elections being a disturbing factor in war time, the Minister remarked that they were equally a disturbing factor in times of peace the disturbance being essentially of an economic nature.
