LAWN TENNIS

KAHUNA CLUB i Tho president (Mr E. L. Hope) occupied the chair at the annual meeting of the above club. Moving tho adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the Chairman congratulated the club. on having had a successful season. He extended congratulations to those members who had answered the call and were serving in the military forces. Difficulties would undoubtedly he experienced during the coming season, he said, but he had no doubt that, with the full cooperation of all members the club could look forward to a happy season. Financially, they had not made the progress anticipated, and the membership would have to be augmented during the coming season if financial stability was to be assured. All members of the club on military service were being placed on the honorary members’ list. The following office-bearers were elected;—President, Mr W. Sherriff; immediate past president, Mr E. L. Hope; vice-president. Miss A. Morrell; auditor. Mr W. R. Chapman; club captain, Miss M. Jolly; secretary and treasurer, Miss M. Kerr; committee; — Miss G. Hamer, Messrs W. R. Sinclair, K. W. Stewart, and M. M'Kinnon. The retiring president and the former secretary and treasurer (Sergeant G. C. Laidlawl were accorded special thanks for their services to the club. A good attendance of members was present at the official opening of the club on Saturday. The President extended a welcome to visitors and new members. Good wishes for a successful season were extended by representatives of the Otago Lawn Tennis Association and the Kaituna Bowling Club ladies and men. Mr W. R. Sinclair congratulated the younger members, and in particular the ladies, on coming forward to assist in tho control of the club during the existing difficult conditions.
