MUSICAL GENIUS
RIGHT ENVIRONMENT ESSENTIAL MENUHIN DN HIS ART [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 23. “ However great one’s musical ability may bo, it is essential that one should live in a country where classical music is produced to absorb an atmosphere that may convert talent into genius.” That is the opinion of Yehudi Menubin, world-famed violinist, who is a through passenger by _ the Monterey from Sydney to the United States. He said America was fortunate because so many of the great artists of the world were seeking sanctuary there. Their influence should make a mark on the musical development of America. He said the peoples of New Zealand and Australia did not lag behind America in most things, but as Jar as music was concerned they were at a disadvantage unless they could spend some time in the countries where music was produced. . Menuhin said he and his wife had spent a delightful month’s holiday with his brother-in-law in the country, and carried away pleasant memories of Australia. He also gave 11 concert recitals in Australia.
