BRITISH CHILDREN
LARGER NUMBERS COMING APPEAL FOR MORE HOMES An appeal for more homes for British children was made by the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) this morning, in view of the fact that larger numbers appear likely to be coming to the Dominion. “ These children are now arriving, said the Mayor, “ and the response to give them homes has been reasonably good. From information available, however, it seems that larger numbers will be coming, consequently I would like to appeal to those willing to offer homes to the British children to send in their names to mo as soon as possible.”
So far the majority of children arriving have come out under the nominated scheme, that is, arrangements for their care have been made privately, but an increase in the number who will be leaving England under the general scheme is indicated from now on.
Those willing to offer homes must be prepared to care for the children for the duration of the war at their own expense.
