20,000 TANKS TO WIN
Tlio only danger to England was in the civilian population losing their beads, said Professor Denis Saurat, head of the French Institute in London, speaking in South Kensington. This was the conclusion reached by General de Gaulle and others who had observed events in France.
According to General de Gaulle’s estimate, said the professor, 350,000 French soldiers were taken prisoner in Belgium and 600,000 in France. The French dead numbered only 60,000 and the wounded perhaps 300.000.
To win the war, concluded Professor Saurat, General de Gaulle’s formula was: Construct 20,000 tanks and 20,000 aeroplanes, and Germany is beaten by exactly the same means that she herself has used. Germany can then be invaded without even going through France, and France will be reconquered without being even seriously damaged.
