KIWI CLUB MR D. F. WATSON RE-ELEGTED PRESIDENT A highly successful year was reviewed at the annual meeting of the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club, held in the baths club room last night, the presilent (Mr D. F. Watson) presiding over an attendance of 120 members. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the Chairman referred to the outstanding work done during the year by the coaches, which was reflected by the results that had been obtained. The club had won the Alex. Greig Shield for the fourth successive year with over 200 points, the junior and intermediate members winning 14 Otago titles, nine seconds, and five thirds, while the seniors won 14 titles, 11 seconds, and 19 thirds. At the national intermediate and junior championships, at which Otago had won the War Memorial Shield with 54 points, the club members had contributed 29 points, and at Wellington, at the national senior championships, at which Otago won the shield with 43 points, the members had contributed 33 points. Mr Watson said he was proud of the fact that so many of the Otago and New Zealand champions in the club were putting back into swimming something of the benefits they had themselves derived, and the coaching they were doing was meeting with splendid results. Referring to the work of the club captains, he said that the discipline in the club was something to be proud of. Mr Watson spoke of the success that had attended the appointment of Miss Islay Purdie as as-sistant-secretary, and, dealing with the financial statement said that this showed that the club was in a strong position, largely brought about by the results of the carnival at St. Kilda. The efforts of Messrs C. J. Leeden, G. H. Peat, and the ladies’ committee were deserving of special mention. The motion was seconded by Mr S. Brown, and Mr C. J. Leeden congratulated the club captain (Mr A. Thomas) and his assistants on their work during the year. They were very proud to have with them that night Mr A. Greig, who had been presented with a New Zealand blazer last year. He had achieved -wonderful results from his coaching of the children. Mr C. J. L.
