SENTENCES PROMULGATED
PAPAKURA COURT MARTIAL ONE MAN DISMISSED FROM FORCES [Peis United Peess Association.] AUCKLAND,. September 18. The sentence of the court martial which sat at Papakura camp last week to hear charges against a member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force and two members of the New Zealand Military Forces was promulgated today. Aircraftman (First Class) R. G. Walker was sentenced to 30 days’. imprisonment, without hard labour, and was ordered to be dismissed from His Majesty’s service with ignominy. Private A. F. Johnson, 24th (Auckland) Battalion, was sentenced to 14 days’ detention.
Gunner J. Croft, 9th Heavy Regiment, New Zealand Artillery, was sentenced to 30 days’ detention. The three men were jointly charged with using violence to their superior officer, creating disorder to the prejudice of good order and military discipline, striking a person in whose custody they wore placed, and committing the civil offence of assault. In addition Aircraftman Walker was charged separately with wilfully injuring public property and with conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline. Private Johnson was also separately charged with using insubordinate language to his superior officer. j ‘ The charges arose from incidents alleged to have occurred when the men were in isolation hospital at camp on August 15.
