RIFLE CLUBS AND DEFENCE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —My attention has been drawn to your report of the remarks I made at tho annual meeting of the Invercargill Defence Rifle Club in reference to the value of rifle club men for home defence purposes. You made a mistake of 900 yards in the distance I mentioned—l.oooyds—and I shall be pleased if you will make the correction. The defence rifle clubs of tho Dominion are not armed with shot guns, but with high-powered rifles sighted up to 2,ooovds mid having an extreme range of well over 3,oooyds. I don’t know of
any defence rifle club in the Dominion that does its target practice at a closer distance than 300yds, and'competition* arc carried on back to 900yds, and at this range excellent scores are often recorded. As the principal paper* further north had the distance Correct the mistake could not have been tho fault of the Association. — I am, etc., A. iR. Wills (President 1.D.E.C.). September 18.
