REPERTORY PRODUCTION
• QUIET WEDDING' The Repertory Society breaks new ground when the curtain goes up next Wednesday on ‘ Quiet Wedding.’ Dunedin is to have the opportunity of seeing the society’s most brilliant cast in this scintillating modern comedy. Esther M’Crackeu’s very sophisticated play propounds a delicate situation—and then solves it in an ultra-modern manner. Mpther thinks she is managing things so well, with lunch for 200 guests, an imported French dressmaker, marquees on the lawn, and champagne —but daughter merely feels that they are showing her off to a nastyminded public! The action of the play varies between tho extremely humorous wedding preparations and the tender, almost pathetic plight of tho lovers. Such violent changes of mood call for a high degree of skill in production and acting. Hence no amount of energy or expense has been spared to make ‘ Quiet Wedding ’ another of the long list of Repertory successes. The society is to be congratulated on introducing some promising new talent, no fewer than six members making their first appearance, these being Mesdames Grace Douglas, Audrey Stevenson, Jean Hasell, Misses Pat Fraser, Billie Loan, and Dr E. M. Nanson. Staging is in the capable hands of Mr Bruce Quennell, and the society’s wardrobe mistress, Mrs Dora Smeaton, may be trusted to make the most of the opportunities for smart dressing. The play was a great success in the 1938 London season, and will surely be equally popular with Dunedin audiences.
