Stevens) was in the chair, and there was an attendance of about 30 inembers. The meeting expressed the opinion that contributions by clubs to the association’s endowment fund should, for the duration of the war, be suspended; also, that it was not desirable that senior fixtures bo limited to one day’s play. Mr Stevens was re-elected president. ABSENT MEMBERS. Among the apologies for non-attend-ance read by the secretary was one from last year’s captain, Mr Norman Henderson, who is now domiciled in Christchurch. Mr Henderson, in tendering Ids resignation and wishing his old club success, mentioned that he was joining tip with the West Christchurch Club. Ho also expressed the opinion that Grange should be proud of G. Lemin’s success in winning the bowling trophy for Otago, as .not only was that player a fine cricketer, but he was also a true sportsman. Mr Lemin, who is in training with tho Air Force, also forwarded an apology, and added: “ I would very much like to he on the job again with you.” PRESIDENT’S REMARKS. The President, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, impressed upon members the necessity,- for making every effort to carry ou tho activities of tho club. It was just as necessary, said Mr Stevens, for those who, for various reasons, were obliged to stay at home to keep the game going as it was for those more favourably placed to take part in the more serious battles in the war zone. The speaker referred 4o the success which the club’s teams, particularly tho senior eleven, which had, very appropriately, won tho competition in the club’s jubilee year. The celebration of this jubilee had been carried out in a most successful fashion. Anqther gratifving feature of the season had boon the fact that G. Lemin had been awarded the Wycherley Trophy as being Otago’s leading bowler. Mr Stevens made special reference to Mr C. Sew Hoy, whose, unflagging energy and loyalty as scorer to the senior team for several years had been of such assistance since the retirement from that position of Mr W. A. Rowland, who, added the president, had agreed to
carry on as sccretray, a post lie had occupied for 25 years. Air Rowland said that he doubted whether it would be competent for such a motion to be considered by the association without notice, and the matter was left in the hands of the delegates. DURATION OF MATCHES. The matter of the advisability of all grade matches being confined to one day’s play during the war period was discussed at some length, and a motion instructing the club’s delegates to move to that end at the annual meeting of the association was defeated in favour of an amendment that senior fixtures be of two days’ duration and junior fixtures of cue day.
