SOAP WORKERS

ARBITRATION CDURT AWARD The Arbitration Court has issued it« award covering the wages and working conditions of Dominion soap workers. The claims settled by the court related to hours, smoko, wages, proportion, overtime, terms of employment, annual holidays, general conditions, and the terms of the award. These tbs court has settled. In other respects tha award embodies the recommendation! arrived at by the assessors in Conciliation Council. A 40-hour week is provided. The minimum rate of pay for mala workers over the age of 21 years i« fixed at not less than , 2s 4d an 1 hour. Male workers in control of five or more men and mala charge hands in charge of processes ara to be paid Is a day extra. Rates for youths and females are also set out in the new award. All rates of remuneration, including time and piece wages and overtime ana other special payments, are subject to the provisions of the general order, dated August 9. 1940, under the Wage* Emergency Regulations. 1940, increasing rates of remuneration by an amount equal to 5 per centum. The award, in so far as it relates to wages, shall be deemed to have corns into force on June 17, 1940, and in so far as all the other conditions of this award are concerned it shall come into force on September 12. The award shall continue in force until June 1941.
