OLD BOVS DEFEAT MSLVN It was by no means a decisive defeat that Seacliff suffered at the hands of Mosgiel at Logan Park, even although three goals was tho margin. A determined forward might easily have turned the scales in Seacliff’s favour. Northern found Technical a hard nut to crack —for 20 minutes. After that it was all Northern, the 5-3 win being flattering to the losers. Maori Hill and Mornington staged a three-goal draw in a strongly-contested match. That unknown quantity, High School Old Boys, provided the surprise of the day by finishing a goal ahead of RoslynWakari, to depose the latter from its runner-up position on the Fletcher Cup ladder. Caversham heat an Air Force team, 2-1, in a friendly game. _ Mosgiel and Roslyn will meet in the final next Saturday. POSITIONS OF TEAMS. The following table gives the positions of teams in the Fletcher Cup competition >
MOSGIEL’S NARROW WIN. Challenging determinedly in the initial period, and holding Mosgiel, Seacliff failed to withstand the pressure in the second spell, and the leaders finished' with the only three goals of the match. It was a game marked by little spectacular or exciting play, being of the long-kicking, full-back ‘‘ stopper ” tactics variety. Mosgiel did not show the form expected on recent performances, although lacking two of its “ regulars,” while on the opportunities offered a Seacliff shootist with determination could have swung the result the other way. J. Skinner (2) and C. Skinner were the Mosgiel scorers, the latter’s shot being deflected to goal by Anderson’s head. Mr J. Welsh controlled the game. WELL-EARNED WIN FOR OLD BOYS. - In the course of a hard-fought game between teams that were, on the day, well matched. High School Old Boys beat Roslyn-Wakari by one in seven goals. Play was bright and open, and afforded spectators plenty of thrills. High School backs did sterling work, with Smith starring in the forward line. Scorers for the winners were L. Smith (3) and Bunean, while D. Smyth. Rutherford, and "Weiham netted for Roslyn. Mr P. George refereed the game, DRAWN GAME. Playing a man short, Maori Hill drew with Mornington (3 all) an a hotly-con-tested game at Prospect Park. Towards the close of play, Hill also lost the services of Cooper, but despite this further defection, the side the last goal just before the final whistle-
Jim Gilchrist (2) and Dunlop scored for Hill, and Cope (2) and Harkness for Mornington. The referee was Mr W. M. Smith. NORTHERN BY TWO GOALS. Except for the latter part of the first spell, when Technical scored twice to lead hy a goal at half-time, Northern dominated the match at the Oval, and won 5-3, a margin which might have been much wider but for the sound defence of the Technical backs. Reynolds (21, M'Lean (2), and Myles scored for Northern, and Huntley, Freeman. and Ramsay for Technical. Mr TV. Dodd was referee. FOURTH GRADE. Caversham 5, Maori Hill 1.
