His three wins in succession in Australia this season make Beaulivre’s record as follows:—•
Don’t Forget. There is no doubt regarding Don’t Forgct’s brilliancy up to six furlongs, and he scored very easily at Ashburton in 1 min 12 2-osec. Don’t Forget is by Mvosotis from Sky rest, by Robespierre from Skyquest. by Autnirmus from Telescope" by Martian, and on that breeding there is no reason why he should not stay. He has now earned a 31b penalty for the Dunedin Guineas. Should be Favourite. When Happy Man was beaten a head by Wainoni Jack at Ashburton on _Saturday lie registered 3mm 29 4-ssc_c. Happy Man will start off the limit in the Geraldine Trot on Thursday. ’J his race will he rim over a mile and three furlongs, and the class is equal to 3mm 43sec for a mile and a-half. # Happy Man should start a good favourite next Thursday. In Favour of Glenora Boy. Winning Rival is not engaged in the Geraldine Cup on Thursday, but Glenora Boy, Swordstick, Tlio Wrecker, Petprsham, The Raker, and Dunstan are. Glenora Boy, who finished second in the Ashburton Handicap on Saturday, will meet The Raker on 11b and the other four on 21b better terms for beating them at Ashburton over the same distance. This shows the folly of declaring the handicaps for the Geraldine meeting before the Ashburton fixture.
Three of a Family. Mr I). Twcodie. president of the Riverton Racing Club, will be represented by three fully-related gallopers* Hark Flight, Gold Flight, and Gay Flight, by Nigger Minstrel from Francolin. Last season Hark Flight won four races and Gold Flight won three, and the filly, Gay Flight, has revealed speed in her early training. Gay Flight is engaged in the M'Loan Stakes, in which Gold Flight, after winning the John Grigg Stakes, and incurring 11 101 b penalty, finished second to Doria.
The Caulfield Cup Favourite. On account of Gladynev’s (Musketoon —Caviare) good performances in the Dominion as a three-year-old, when ho won four times, once second, and twice third out of eight starts, and an apparent mistake in his handicap for the Caulfield Cup, he was at once made favourite for the big mile and a-half handicap, but so far his form in Australia does not warrant this confidence. On Saturday ho was not only well beaten in a mile and a-quarter race, but his cider was reprimanded for the indifferent handling of him. Royal Lancer. Royal Lancer, winner of the Novice Stakes at Ashburton on Saturday, is a threc-year-old gelding by Irish Lancer from Winsome Sister, by Some Boy 11. from Sister Regis, and was bred by his owner, Mr W. Swale. Last season Royal Lancer finished three times third and once second out of six starts, and was ticked off for an early win this , season. He got an eye injured before the National meeting, and his trainer, F. W. Ellis, of Invercargill, was unable to start him. Royal Lancer was left with A. S. Ellis at Sock burn, and has now made a good recovery. He was engaged in the maiden race at Geraldine next Thursday, but will not be eligible on the first day. Explanation Accepted. This is a story of the late Keith Voitrc In Adelaide in 1936, ho won .the Baker Handicap on Doncaster. At Morphetville the stewards follow every race in a motor car on the inside of the track, and Voitre had evidence of the close watch they can keep when he was questioned after the race. “ I want to know what you said to another jockey at the home turn.” said one of the officials. Momentarily Voitre was nonplussed, but then he remembered. “ Oh, yes,” ho replied, ‘ I said to Bill Elliot: 1 I wonder how far I’m going to heat you by.’ ” Explanation accepted. The Raker. Last season, after winning five races in succession, The Raker was looked on as a most promising young horse, and accorded a nomination in the Melbourne Cup. But since having to meet open company this four-year-old son of Croupier and Kippit Lee has not shown anything like his true form, and at Ashburton on Saturday made a very poor showing.
Champion Plate Winner. Bean Leon, winner of the Avondale Champion Plate on Saturday, is by Beau Pere from Lady Bete, an English bred mare, who also left Galilee. This was liis second start this season, having finished second to Classic at the Pakuranga Handicap last month. As a two-year-old, Beau Leon had 14 starts, finishing third three times, and scoring a win in his last start.
