NEW TRAWLER LAUNCHED
FOR PORT CHALMERS FLEET Of a new design, and being the first boat to be built for, the Port Chalmers fishing fleet for about eight years by Miller and Tunnago Ltd., a new trawler was launched at Carey’s Bay this afternoon for Ledgerwood Brothers, Deborah Bay. Of 25-30 tons gross, with an estimated speed of 9-10 m.p.h., she will bo a fine addition to the trawling fleet after she has completed her trials.
Powered with a GO h.p. full Diesel R.M. engine, she is. 49ft long, of 12ft Gin beam, with a draught of Gft Gin. Built of kauri, with teak docks, she has a hardwood keel, stern, and stem post. Entrance is provided to the engine room, and accommodation for the crew from a spacious wheel-house, measuring about Bft by Gft. Her hull is all copper fastened. Two masts, with provision for carrying three Marconi-rig sails, are stepped. She has a coal stove and all modern fishing conveniences. Mrs Ledgerwood, son., officiated at the launching ceremony of the craft, which was christened Awatea.
