LOYALTY TO BRITAIN French opinion in Canada on Britain’s forcible seizure of the French Fleet is no longer in doubt. AVith one accord the British action is approved by the French-language newspapers in Quebec and elsewhere, ’typical is the declaration of ‘ Le Canada,’ of Montreal, which says: — “ A\ T e Canadians, whose security depends upon the naval inferiority of the enemy, can only rejoice over this British intervention. For Canada, as well as the British isles, the signal success of the British Fleet w of great significance. AVould not Germany, if sho had acquired the French fleet, have attempted to invade Canadian waters P To ask that question is to answer it. Those who would invoke the German solemn engagement at the armistice are dangerous innocents. “ The British Government, in the presence of an extremely difficult situation, acted resolutely. AA’hat was done was what ought to have been done, and it was done quickly and well. AA’orld oniuion and history will approve it. -
