ARMY QUEEN DAY
STRAND SING COLLECTS £35 ' All Army songs made a fitting programme for the Army Queen funds appeal made at the Strand Theatre community sing to-day, when £35 was collected, including £1 10s from the employees of the Southland Sawmilling Company and £2 15s from the Drill Hall staff. Airiui made an appearance on the stage and addressed a few words to the company. She also obliged with two songs— 1 Roses of Picardy 1 and ‘ Wai Ata Poi.’ Miss Grennell was accompanied by her lady-in-waiting, Mrs Dora Smeaton, who appealed for edibles for the dugout in the Octagon. Mr Gerald Lane, chairman of the Army Committee, sang 1 It’s a Long Way to Tipperary,’ thus gaining £1 for the funds. Under the leadership of Demmy and Himmy, with Altie at the piano and Harry assisting, tho song went with a swing, and various articles sold for good prices. A panda brought £1 10s and was handed back again to be resold for £l.
