WARNING SHOT

FISHERMAN IN FORBIDDEN WATERS [Peg United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 10. Warning shots were tired recently from the forts at the mouth of W ellington harbour when a man who was apparently lishiug from a rowboat ventured into forbidden waters in Breaker Bay. He took the hint and departed. Some weeks ago Chaffer’s Passage and the adjoining waters were gazetted as closed to shipping, including small craft. Recently, apparently in ignorance, a fisherman ventured into the affected area, and to warn him that he was not allowed there, a burst from a Lewis gun was fired in his vicinity, but not where there was any likelihood of hitting him. He thereupon shifted put of that area. No other action has been taken, although it is understood that the police have power to prosecute for a breach of the regulations.
