LAWN TENNIS UNION

ANNUAL REPORT The fifteenth annual report of the Dunedin Lawn Tenuis Union states that 22 clubs are affiliated, with. 45 teams playin'* in the competitions, against 2d clubs and 44 teams the previous season. The competition in all grades was very keen and interesting, a play-off being necessary in no fewer than four-of the frve grades to decide the winners, noteworthy performances were made by the Holy Cross team in the intermediate orade (promoted from C grade) and the suburban club, Wyllie’s Crossing, in winning the C grade competition. Congratulations are extended to the followIn* grade winners:—A, Aotea; intermediate, Holy Cross; B, Anderson s Bay- C Wyllie’s Crossing; D, Kiwi. Owin'* to the number of union players aoing” overseas on active service, the Management Committee thought it fitting to establish a fund,-to be known as the “ soldiers’ comfort fund. The obiect of the fund is to send small comforts and keep in touch with union members while on overseas service. A subscription list was opened and met with a ready response from the clubs, the sum of £2l 6s being collected. The committee expresses its appreciation to the Macandrew Hoad Club for its generous donation of two cups to the union for annual competition, the cups to be called the J. J. Ford and the J Dove Cups. Towards the end of the season a move was made to establish a fund for union courts. After several meetings a committee was set up with power to act. The committee considered that the time was inopportune tor starting an appeal for funds.. £o establish a fund for the building of union courts it was decided to continue union dances A grant of £5 was received from the General Union funds Two successful dances were held, and helped to swell the fund.
