ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
SHEPHERD DROWNED. Douglas M'Keown, single, aged 22, a shepherd, was swept from his horse and drowned in attempting to ford a flooded creek in the Waipawa district on Sunday. His horse was found yesterday afternoon with the saddle wet and the saddlebags full of water. A search was begun immediately by the police and a party of farmers, and the body was found in a deep hole about half a mile below the crossing place. The creek is one which is almost dry in. summer time and floods considerably in winter. After torrential rain during the week-end in Hawke’s Bay it rose 15ft. M'Keown’s parents reside at Mataura. PLAYING AT SCHOOL, Owen O’Brien, a young boy, fractured his leg while playing at school yesterday, and was admitted to Hospital in the late afternoon. He lives at 12 Harbour Terrace, Ravensbourne. HAND CRUSHED.. Alfred Bradley, aged 19, had his right hand crushed when it was caught between two trucks in the tunnel in which he was working at Outrani.' He was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 12.10 p.m. to-day.
