MEASLES EPIDEMIC
GAMPS AND CIVILIANS AFFECTED THIRTY-NINE SCLDIERS IN K9SPITAL [Per United Press Association.] HAMILTON. September 10. There is every indication that the present mild measles epidemic is spreading in the Waikato, as all the camps in the area now have some cases, while the civilian population is also affected in some parts of the district. Yesterday seven soldiers were admitted to the emergency hospital in the new West School, two being from Hopu Hopu and one from Claudelands, whore the 7th Medium Battery is in camp, the other four being from the special isolation camp at To Rapa. Thirty-nine soldiers are now in hospital. IN GDOD SPIRITS GASES OF MILD TYPE [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 10. The Director-General of Medical Services (Colonel Bowerbank) visited the To Rapa camp yesterday. He says the men isolated there are in good spirits, comfortably quartered, and well looked after. He did not know how long they would have to remain there. Speaking of the measles epidemic in the camps generally, Colonel Bowerbank said that although it had not yet abated, all the new cases were of a mild type, and that every precaution was being taken to prevent further spreading of the epidemic.
