KIWI SWIMMING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING MR DON WATSON ELECTED PRESIDENT Reviewing the activities of the past year at the annual meeting last night of the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club, the chairman (Mr S. Brown) said that the season had been the most success-* ful in the club history. There, was an attendance of more than 70 members. The adoption of the report and balance sheet was moved by the Chairman, who referred to; the present international situation, and in stressing the loyalty of members said he felt sure they would play their part in whatever capacity. they were called upon to do so. Those still able to do so: he urged to carry on the work of the club among the younger members. The year had been a record one for the club, which had won the Alex. Greig Shield for the premiership for the third year in 'succession, the A and B grade water polo competition, Kiwi members had gamed 10 New Zealand titles, three had! broken, records, and the younger swimmers had won 14 primary schools’ titles, which was indicative of the good work of the coaches, the adoption of the group system’ of coaching being a greater suecess than ever. Mr Brown thanked all who had assisted in the club’s, coaching activities, and referred to the inauguration of dual meetings with the West End Club (Timaru), fixtures having been held at Timaru and Dunedin during the year. He also commended thd members who had played their part during the “ Learn to Swim .” campaign, referring especially to Miss P. Wenborn, who had given up five weeks of her time for voluntary instruction of school children. In thanking all who had assisted the club during the year, he referred especially to Mr H. A« Newall, who had been a staunch supporter for many years. He concluded by appealing to the ydunger members to make life saving a part of their activities. The motion was seconded by Mr. AGreig. Mr C. J. L. White congratulated the club oil the wide range of its social activities. Mr C. J. Leeden complimented the club captain (Mr A. Thomas) on his work during the year. Mr Leeden also congratulated Mr Greig on his award of a New Zealand hon. association blazer. The report and balance sheet were adopted, ELECTION OP OFFICE-BEARERS. Mr Whittinghame had generously presented a challenge cup for competition for the 100yds intermediate breast, stroke championship of the club in recognition of the record of Reg. Geddes in breast stroke competition. The cup would be known a, the Reg. Geddes Challenge Gup.—Tt was decided to record a minute of appreciation of Mr Whittinghame’s action. •
