8.8. C. ADMINISTRATION

STRUCTURE AND CONSTITUTION UNALTERED (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 28. (Received September 29, at 11 a m.) Answering Mr Attlee, in the House of Commons, on the changes recently announced in the control of the 8.8. C., Mr Chamberlain said that they were of two kinds. Firstly, was a transfer to the Minister of Information of the powers vested in the PostmasterGeneral; secondly, there had been a reduction in the number of Governors from seven to two in order to ensure the smooth and swift operation of the broadcasting system in war. Provision for such a reduction existed in the charter, and was in accordance with the agreement reached between the governors and the Government before the outbreak of .war.

The new arrangements, Mr Chamberlain affirmed, did not alter the' structure or constitution of the corporation, and the interests of listeners and the accepted principles of broadcasting would be .safeguarded. In respect to censorship and news, the 8.8. C. was in the same position as the Press. In a further answer, the Premier assured Mr Attlee that he realised the need to avoid the danger of the 8.8. C. becoming subject to bureaucratic control.-
