NORTH OTAGO NOTES
[From Our Oamaru Correspondent.] TRANSPORT OPERATORS’ ASSOCIATION. There was a large. attendance of North Otago and Waimate motor transport operators at a meeting held at Oamaru. An association was formed, the executive being as follows;—President, Mr D. E. Neave (Kurow); secretary, Mr C. G. Meikle (Oamaru) ; committee—Messrs W. J. Hutt, B. Walker’ (Waimate); A. J. Banks, R. S. Duthie, A. Mulligan (Oamaru), and J. Shanks (Kurow). The meeting resolved to co-operate with the Government and to plan to achieve .the desired efficiency of the industry. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. Judgment by default for plaintiffs was given by Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., yesterday in the following civil cases: — H. R. Domigan v. A. Wilson, £B, costs £2 10s 6d; Alexander Millar v. G. Glover, £3 15s, costs £1 6s 6d. A claim by William James Connors, of Invercargill, from Michael Francis Cooney, as executor in the estate of Peter Connors, father of plaintiff, for £173 10s, deferred military pay lent to. Peter Connors by plaintiff between 1914 and 1919, and repayable oh the death of Peter Connors, was a most unusual one. Peter Connors had died in 1936; and the plaintiff died in 1938, his widow and children being substituted as plaintiffs by order of the court. The Magistrate, gave judgment for defendant, the claim being barred by the Statute of Limitations. OAMARU TENNIS CLUB. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Oamaru Tennis Club:—President, Dr R. S. J. Fitzgerald; vice-presidents—Miss J. B. Wilson, Dr E. E. Butler, Messrs M. Ryan, G. Knowles, H. P. Maude, and H. J. S. Grater; secretary, Miss J. Corrigall; treasurer, Mr J. K. C. Spooner; committee—Mesdames S. G. M'Dougall and M. Thyne, Misses I. Gunn and I. B. Romans, Messrs A. Feathers, G. Knowles, Robson, and Giffen; selector, Mr W. K. Giffen; delegates, Messrs Knowles and S. G. M'Dougall. PIPE BAND. Congratulations to the baud on its excellent record! of service to the community during the year were expressed at the annual meeting of the North Otago Highland Pipe Band by Messrs R. B. Meek, C. J. Marshall, J. Gerrie, and W. Gillies. The following officers were elected;—Chief, Mr N. C. Gilchrist; president, Mr W. Couper; vicepresidents—Messrs R. K. Ireland, L. Macrae, and J. Campbell; pipe-major, Mr G. Dickson; drum-major, Mr L. Abernethy; senior sergeant, Mr J. Gibson; junior sergeant, Mr C. Cleverley; corporal, Mr J. Bradley; lance-corporal, Mr G. Finnie; auditors, Messrs C. J. Marshall and W. Edwards; custodian, Mr G. Doran. Eulogistic references to Mr W. Couper’s services as secretary for 35 years were made, MINIATURE RIFLES. Totara Club. W.
