MAYFAIR
‘ Mother Carey’s Chickens,’ the delightful film adaptation of Kate Douglas Wiggins’s story, makes an admirable contrast to the Joe E. Brown comedy, ‘ Wide Open Faces,’ which comprise the new hill which is at the Mayfair. A star-studded cast was assembled for the former attraction, which tells of the trials and tribulations of an everyday family on holiday. Anne Shirley and Ruby Keeler head the feminine list of players, while Ralph Morgan and Janies Ellison are well cast. Since the out-sized mouth of Joe E. Brown first made its screen debut Lis list of, fans has steadily increased, for his studio has wisely provided Kim with an outstanding list of hilarious vehicles. ‘ Wide Open Faces ’ is in direct accord with that policy, for laughs tumble over one another throughout the seven reels. Lydia Roberti, Alison Skipworth, Jane Wyman, and Barbara Pepper help Joe and the production to success.
