SUPERANNUATED PUBLIC SERVANTS
OTAGO BRANCH MEETS The nineteenth annual meeting of the Otago branch of the Public Servants Association was hold in the Returned Soldiers’ Association Hall yesterday afternoon. There were about 100 members present at the meeting, which was presided over by the chairman, Mr D. Harris Hastings. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted without much discussion!) and all the outgoing officers were reelected. Mr Magnus Thomson, the hon. secretary, gave a summary of the business transacted at the recent Dominion conference in Wellington, which showed that the president and his committee were keen on protecting the interests of superannuitants. On the motion of Colonel W. Strong, seconded by Colonel G. Barclay, a resolution of loyalty to the King and Empire was passed, and it was agreed that this should he forwarded to the Acting Prime Minister. After all the business had been transacted the meeting resolved itself into a social gathering, when afternoon tea was served and an opportunity offered for intercourse amongst old friends. A musical programme, etc., which had been arranged for by Mr E. N. Falck was a great success. The following were the performers;—Messrs A. W. Romeril, Arthur Macdonald, and S. J. Taylor contributed songs, Mrs D. Falck acting as accompanist. Mr N. R. M‘lsaac gave a number of humorous sketches, whilst Mr Falck gave an epitome of the foundation of the association, and Mr J. A. M‘Ph«e some of his Canadian experiences. On the whole, this first social given by the Otago branch was in every way a success, and the opinion was generally expressed that it should he an annual function.
