SOCIAL SERVICES
PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH'S ACTIVITIES FIRST ANNUAL MEETING FOR 25 YEARS Despite the fact that the work of tho Presbyterian Social Service Association has proceeded uninterruptedly, the first annual meeting for a quarter of a century was held last night. The growth of the organisation during that period was reviewed by several of the speakers, including the chairman, Mr T. Somerville. Since 1914 a great development had taken place in the work of the association. Ross Home came into being in 1918, while about 1929-30 the cottage home system had been instituted, said the Chairman. Tbo building of the hospital wing at (Ross Home had been a necessary addition, but the association’s latest “ child,” and one of its most promising, was the extension of activities in South Dupcdin. It was with regret that the association had accepted the resignation of Mr J. B. Brugh, but his position as superintendent had been admirably filled by the (Rev. A. M. Elliffe, while Mr G. H. Coley had been appointed as an assistant. After briefly outlining tho association’s activities, the Rev. A. M. Elliffo elaborated two suggestions which fie thought might be incorporated in its future work—tho establishment of a home for tired mothers and the admis sion of bed-ridden cases to the lloss Home. The adoption of the annual report was moved by the Chairman, while the Revs. 11. T. Dodds and G. M. Sullivan and Mr T._ C. Ross added reports on special sections of the association’s activities. The motion was carried. Mr A. M. Cameron moved the adoption of the balance sheet, which was seconded by the Rev. H. A. Mitchell and carried. A comprehensive vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Sutherland Ross and carried.
