CARISBROOK CLUB The sixty-fourth annual meeting of the Carisbrook Club, held last night, was presided over by the president (Mr Crosby Morris). There was an attendance of about 40 members. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of tbo annual report and balance sheet, said that, on the whole, the position was satisfactory. The senior eleven was to be congratulated upon winning its competition and also the fielding trophy, but the performances of the lower grade teams had been rather disappointing. The speaker made reference to the departure from Dunedin of Mr John Dunning, and concluded by complimenting the committee, particularly in view of the very bad weather experienced last season, on the satisfactory financial position of the club. The' motion was seconded by Mr J. Hope. Mr A. Martin advocated the appointment of two or three practice captains, and expressed the opinion that seniors and juniors should practice together. Mr J. M'Mullan pointed out that in the past the club had taken in hand a dozen boys from schools and elsewhere, and the progress made with them could be estimated by the fact that two or three of these lads had developed into senior players. Mr M. Briggs expressed disappointment with certain actions of the committee, particularly in respect of the lack of encouragement given the Boys’ Association team. Mr A. Rayner and Mr E. Wilson replied to the criticism, and the motion for the adoption of the report and balance sheet was carried. HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS Members of the Otago High School Old Boys’ Cricket Club met last night at the annual meeting in the R.S.A., Mr D. A. Solomon presiding in the absence of the . president (Mr W. R. Brinsley). There was a good attendance. ANNUAL REPORT. Both on the field and financially the season had been a good one, stated the annual report. In competition games there had been quite satisfactory success, there being some fine 'performances registered by all teams. Financially the club was in a sound position. , In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the Chairman expressed regret at the absence of the president. It was gratifying to note the continued success of the senior eleven; he had on occasions participated in many grave discussions on the question of the preservation of the status of the eleven and the club itself at Otago Association meetings The trouble with cricket in Dunedin was that matches could not be completed successfully, although the standard of play was high. It had been decided' that the present system was to continue in Dunedin for this year, and he asked the club to practise hard and seriously to maintain the high place the club hail previously occupied. He stressed the value of friendly matches, and touched warmly upon the outstanding subscriptions shown in the balance sheet. It was regrettable that there were no new members to be welcomed, and he suggested that a strong effort should be made to recruit as many as. possible. Cricket generally might be seriously affected by the war situation, and the club in particular, he said, and extended the best wishes of the club to a member who had enlisted in the special force. He urged members to carry on in the ordinary way until such time as they felt they had to enter into service. The report and balance sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
