SPIRITUAL REARMAMENT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —1 wrote you on August 26 concerning the Imperial Prime Minister's declaration that Britain was now ready for any emergency. I pointed out the full combination of dictator forces that will be ranged against us, and continued, " Pride goes before a fall; Mr Chamberlain certainly exhibits the pride to-day, but thanks be to God, our fall vviil only be down on to our knees to acknowledge our inability in the emergency, our unworthiness too, but our certain faith in His ability ' to do it for us '; to show the world Ho is God indeed, and finally to send peace." In the intervening four weeks the war we have so. long pointed out as inevitable, because the Bible says so, has come, and two miracles have been worked. Many are to follow. The first one 'is that all Britons are singleminded to fight to the end so that right may prevail over might, once and for all, in the world; and even the most confirmed pacifist cannot raise a whisper against our. ideals. It is to be noted these are exactly the ideals of Armageddon. The second miracle is that the nation is not waiting four 'years, as it did in 1914, before interceding for divine help, but that the Almighty has inclined the heart of His Majesty the King and his rrivy Council to direct the nation to turn to spiriutal rearmament at once. In my former letter I quoted Hosea v., 15: Thus saith the Lord, " I will return to My place till they acknowledge their offence and seek My face; in their affliction they will seek Me early." , A notion s.eems to be creeping in here that national prayers specially for peace are to bo said next Sunday, October 1. It is to be hoped the variety known as " at any price " is not intended, for the dominant note in the nation's mind is that there shall be no peace until might is for ever destroyed. We must give God no rest (silence) until He brings the victory for right and until He makes Jerusalem a praise in all the earth, for that means peace on earth with goodwill among all men, when wars shall have ceased. A Ministerial fear is also creeping in of " just wondering what the future has in store for us," but under the Union Jack, trusting in God. we can neither wonder nor despair, but have absolute confidence (even with every complication still to arise, so that eventuallv the entire three-headed " beast " will 'be against Us) that Britain still will stand protected as in ages past, and God will be victorious. Do. please, Mr Editor, urge your readers on, on to spiritual rearmament; that is what is going to win the victory for right, and not our own might. The weakest is equal with the strongest in this army; each must do his bit.—l am. etc., G. Steel. September 24.
