JOHN M'GLASHAN COLLEGE
BOARD OF GOVERNORS Tho Board of Governors of John M'Glashan College held its monthly meeting on Thursday evening, when there were present Messrs T. C. Ross (in tho chair), A. .R. Harris, A. C. Duke, J. L. Hobbs, H. L. Cook, C. G. Gray, C. Baker, A. C. Cameron, J. Begg, Professor R: Lawson, the Revs. A. C. W; Standage, and J. J. Oairney. Dr Mprrington was nominated to act as the board’s representative on the Executive Committee of the newlyformed John M'Glashan College Association. The proposed canvass of the Qtago and Southland districts was
abandoned, as it was felt that the tim* waa not suitable for such ; an , undertaking. . . The Headmaster reported that one o| the masters, Mr J. H. Kempthorne, ha<J been appointed second-lieutenant'in th* Rifle Brigade, and was to take np hi* duties almost immediately. Mr' GiCi’N. Johnson had been appointed to take' hi* place on the staff, and efforts were being made to secure the services of another junior' master,, The. board’s attention - was drawn to the large .number of old boys who had volunteered, for military service. It was decided that a scholarship and free place be advertised as available for next year, the examination for which was to take place in November. A favourable report had been received regarding tho inspection recently of tip* primary . and infant departments. '
