VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION There was a good attendance of members of the Dunedin Vocational Guidance Association at a special meeting last night, at which the president (Mr J. L; Salmond) occupied the chair. An informal address on the work of the New Zealand Council for Educational Research was given by Mr H. C. M'Queen, a member of the council, who is at present examining the operation of vocational guidance in the Dominion at the request of the Government. The speaker reviewed the council’s publications, which were undertaken at the expense of the Carnegie Corporation, a five-year grant having been extended until 1944. At the conclusion of his address Mr M‘Queen was accorded a vote of thanks. The boys’ work officer (Mr T. Conly) reported that during the past fortnight Otis mental tests were taken of all form 11. pupils in schools in Dunedin and surrounding districts. About 850 individual tests were completed, and the association’s officers were grateful for the co-operation of school headmasters. The test sheets were being scored by the education department of the Otago University. The executive decided on the publication of a booklet on occupations, as was done last year.
